Frequently Asked Questions

Are you suitably qualified and insured?

Yes. I carry professional and public liability insurance and I have a postgraduate diploma in Veterinary Physiotherapy. I am also part of the National Association of Veterinary Physiotherapists (NAVP). Membership is only given to qualified practitioners, in which proof is required.

Can a veterinary physiotherapist give a diagnosis?

No. Under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, only qualified veterinary surgeons are legally allowed to give a diagnosis. However, as veterinary physiotherapists, we can send your vet a full report of our findings to help with their diagnosis.

Do I need to get veterinary consent?

For every initial assessment (I haven’t seen your animal before), yes I will need veterinary consent from your vet.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes. I give group discounts if treating more than one animal at the same address on the same day. Please see ‘Location and Prices’ tab for more information.

Is Veterinary Physiotherapy suitable for all animals?

Most animals will generally tolerate physiotherapy. A lot of them will come to enjoy the experience. Health and safety and the animal’s welfare will always take priority. Sessions are force free, I aim to work within the animal’s capabilities, so this may mean the first session involves the animal becoming comfortable in my presence. All individual needs will be taken into account. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further queries on the suitability of physiotherapy for your animal/s.

Do I need to do any preparation prior to the appointment?

I ask that the animal is dry and clean at the time of the appointment, if not I will not be able to carry out the session. Canine appointments are mobile, so I do require a space large enough to accommodate the dog, myself and some room to move around. Where the dog is most comfortable is usually the best place for the session. Most dogs do well when distracted with some food. High value treats, or food on a Lickimat/Kong are ideal for keeping a dog occupied during the session.

Can I claim back the money for my physiotherapy session?

Some insurance policies allow you to claim back the money for physiotherapy sessions, however this is individual to each policy. It is worth having a read of your insurance documents to make sure.

Can I arrange for my insurance company to pay you directly?

I do not accept direct claims. Instead, I will provide you with an invoice upon payment to myself, and then your insurance company will reimburse you if it is covered in your policy.

What payment methods do you accept?

I accept bank transfer or cash

When do I pay for the appointment?

Payment is to be made on the day

What happens if I cannot make my appointment?

If you cannot make your appointment, please do contact me as soon as possible. If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment, charges apply (please see our Terms and conditions for more information). This is due to the unlikeliness of being able to book someone else in at such short notice. In the event of an emergency, a full refund will be granted.

Do I need to be present during the appointment?

The owner or responsible person must be present during the appointment.
